Work From Home
With the explosive growth of the Internet, more and more people have been given the opportunity to work from home. It used to be in the industrial age, that there were very few jobs one could do from home. Now that we are in the information age however, things have most definitely changed.
The Internet has given us access to not just more information but also the opportunity to telecommute, or do at home tasks that until this point, people were only able to perform if they were physically at work. Employers have also warmed up to the idea of their employees working from home, and in fact some companies go out of their way to make it easier to do just that. Research also shows that employees who work from home at least once a week are more productive and show less signs of work related stress.
Some common work at home jobs are, data entry, virtual assistant or customer service positions. While being under the employ of a company may not provide the income potential of owning your own business, some people prefer it because of the steady paycheck.
Not everybody who works out of their home is employed by a bigger corporation. Many people now operate small (or large) home based businesses without having to worry about an employer. Some people choose to earn some extra income part time, while a growing number of others are making the leap to working full time from home.
There are many options to starting your own business from home. Everything from doing surveys online, to affiliate marketing, to network marketing, (multi level marketing) it really just depends on what you enjoy doing and what your monthly income goals are. Are you a people person? Do you enjoy spending a lot of time on the computer? Do you prefer to work alone or with others? These are all questions you should ask yourself when searching for the perfect home business.
What ever you decide to do, remember that to be successful you must put in the time and effort. It can sometimes be difficult working from home as there are many distractions and often no one to make sure you are doing what you should be. The people who succeed are able to stay focused and motivated without supervision. If you can practice the self discipline required then you will be well on your way to living the “work from home” dream!
Earning Extra Income from Home
You are sick of the long commute to and from work, the ridiculous amount of hours, and to top it all off, they don’t even pay you enough! Sound familiar? Well, you are not alone. More and more people are getting fed up with the everyday rat race and are making the move to a work from home job. Now, just because you are working from home doesn’t mean that you are free to do whatever you want. Whether you are still the employee of a larger company, or you have decided to strike out on your own, working at home still requires that you get up in the morning and put in the hours necessary to be successful.
This is actually one of the biggest challenges most people experience. Having been an employee for most of your career, it can sometimes be difficult to get started without having someone to tell you exactly what to do every day. Some people struggle with time management issues, while others miss the human interaction that comes from working with other people. For certain people however, working from home can be a real life saver.
Work from home moms. This one is kind of a no brain-er. Although some now do, most companies don’t offer childcare for their employees children, and daycare can be very expensive. A home based job allows mom to pay the bills and take care of the kids at the same time…same thing for work from home dads.
People with disabilities. If you have a disabilities that makes it difficult (or impossible) to work in a traditional environment, an at home job or home based business can be a great alternative. Working on the Internet can allow you to still produce an income while also being able to work in an environment where you are comfortable, and that you are able to function in.
People needing extra income. Sometimes you may still like your job, but it just doesn’t pay enough. A work from home job can be a great way to earn some extra money on the side without having to leave your full time career. You can start out small, and if you get to the point where you are making as much from your part time business as you are from your full time job, you can then decide where you would prefer to focus your full time effort.
How to Avoid Work at Home Scams
There are many options for someone who is looking at working from home. With the thought of more freedom to make your own hours and less time spent on the daily commute, who wouldn’t want to work at home? The Internet has created virtually unlimited opportunities for people looking to create some extra income from home and many are taking a serious look at a home business. Unfortunately this has also created the opportunity for many work at home scams.
It can often be difficult for people to tell the difference between whats real and whats not. A little bit of research will help you discover many different options but there are some industries that seem to be notorious for trying to take advantage of people as opposed to offering a legitimate home business.
Many people have been taken advantage of with the promise of easy money doing online surveys. While it is true that some companies will pay people for their thoughts and opinions, more often that not things are not always “as advertised”. A good sign that things may not be on the up and up is if a company requests payment for an information packet. Legitimate survey companies will not ask you to pay up front to access information on what they offer. It is also not realistic to expect to get paid large amounts of money for doing paid surveys. Companies may pay up to a few dollars per survey but anything more than that should look suspicious.
Envelope stuffing is anther industry that is rife with scams. Although the allure of easy money can often be intoxicating, one really needs to approach things with an ounce of common sense. Why would a company pay someone $1-$2 to stuff envelopes at home when they could pay a mailing house a fraction of that for the very same thing? As with the surveys be weary of people wanting money for “information packages”…legitimate companies will not ask for this.
Withe all the work at home scams on the Internet it can sometimes seem like nothing is legit and that everyone is just looking to take advantage of each other. With just a little research however, it is possible to uncover many legitimate opportunities. Forums are a good place to get feedback on what is working for other people. You can find not just what is working but also get good feedback on some of the pitfalls to avoid when getting started.
Ideas to Supplement your Income.
As we we continue to move through the information age and the “traditional job” is becoming a thing of the past, more and more people are starting to explore the possibility of working from home. There are of course the obvious the reasons for wanting to work at home…not having to make the long commute to and from work, not having a set or highly regimented schedule, more time to spend with family and enjoying the things you love to do, etc. However, as our world continues to change there are also many more “practical” reasons to think about a home business.
It used to be that with our parents generation, a person could get started with a company right out of college (or even high school) and expect to spend their entire career with the same company knowing that they would be taken care of through retirement, with a company pension after 30 or so years of service. Needless to say, times have changed. Where it was once commonplace to hold one job for life, the average adult will now have as many as 5 different careers over their lifetime according to Ernst & Young assistant director and head of recruiting for the firms real estate group, Angela Sorrell. Just like many other aspects of the industrial age, “job security” is quickly becoming a thing of the past. People are realizing that if they want to be guaranteed a stable retirement they cannot depend on a company or the government to take care of them, they need to take matters into their own hands.
Working from home can be a great way to start small, and on a part time basis, to supplement your current salary. It provides the ability to explore alternative sources of income without having to come up with large amounts of capital that are often required with a more traditional business. Whether its a work from home job, a small consulting firm, or a home based business, there is often little more required to get started than an Internet connection and a genuine desire to provide the peace of mind that comes from building multiple streams of income. It sometimes happens that a persons “side business” turns out to meet a very real need in the marketplace, and they suddenly find themselves experiencing far more success than they ever dreamed possible.
Whether you plan to go big, or just want to keep it small, working from home can be a very rewarding experience.
