With the explosive growth of the Internet, more and more people have been given the opportunity to work from home. It used to be in the industrial age, that there were very few jobs one could do from home. Now that we are in the information age however, things have most definitely changed.

The Internet has given us access to not just more information but also the opportunity to telecommute, or do at home tasks that until this point, people were only able to perform if they were physically at work. Employers have also warmed up to the idea of their employees working from home, and in fact some companies go out of their way to make it easier to do just that. Research also shows that employees who work from home at least once a week are more productive and show less signs of work related stress.

Some common work at home jobs are, data entry, virtual assistant or customer service positions. While being under the employ of a company may not provide the income potential of owning your own business, some people prefer it because of the steady paycheck.

Not everybody who works out of their home is employed by a bigger corporation. Many people now operate small (or large) home based businesses without having to worry about an employer. Some people choose to earn some extra income part time, while a growing number of others are making the leap to working full time from home.

Withe all the work at home scams on the Internet it can sometimes seem like nothing is legit and that everyone is just looking to take advantage of each other. With just a little research however, it is possible to uncover many legitimate opportunities. Forums are a good place to get feedback on what is working for other people. You can find not just what is working but also get good feedback on some of the pitfalls to avoid when getting started.

As we we continue to move through the information age and the “traditional job” is becoming a thing of the past, more and more people are starting to explore the possibility of working from home.
